Metal Machine Music - remix

In the last of my sonic experiments into making people feel
like they have taken bad, un-tested drugs, I present my
Metal Machine Music remix.

I have taken Track 1 and recorded it in the left hand speaker.

Then I have taken Track 2 and recorded it in the right hand speaker.

In the middle I have put some drones and trumpet loops and samples.

What do you get when you overlay 2 different songs from the seminal white noise album?

Please do not listen if driving, operating heavy machinery or suffering from mental health problems.

4 tracks spread out over a double album, this had no
drum or vocals or indeed any songs, just feedback guitar
drones looping over and over, with electronic squalls
of generated tones and noise........ of course it is common
knowledge that track 3 is the best! Are those hints of
tunes buried down in the mix?

This is either:
Lou Reed getting out of his record company contract
and a big fuck you to the hired suits

or

A noise terror experiment in sonics and volume
which 15 years later would influence bands like
The Swans and Sonic Youth etc.

Earthless - Dub remix

Despite the perfection of Sonic Prayer by Earthless, I decided to
increase the enjoyment quota to almost reckless limits!

Taking the classic track "Flower Travelin' Man",
I duplicated the song onto another track but lagged it  behind
by a fraction of a second and then rode the fuck out of the
delay to give you twice as much guitar solo in a reverb
drenched orgy of psyched out bliss.

I spoil you!

Pig Destroyer vs Miles Davis

With anticipation high for the new Pig Destroyer coming
out soon, what better time than now to re-present this
classic soundclash between two unique and diverse artists.

This was first posted on the sadly missed Throat Burned Out
- the blog run by noise terrorists ZoZo))) and Claypool who
invited me to contribute now and then.

Below is my original text + the track in all its glory - listen or
download in the comfort of your own hovel.

Looking through the Pig Destroyer releases, I was interested by "Natasha" - a 35 minute track of slow doom, laden with atmospherics, sounding more like Godflesh or early Melvins rather than the grind they are known for. Hearing voices and music in my head constantly might make my mental breakdowns a strain on my life but this time it has worked to my advantage - I could hear that the Miles Davis track "Gondwana" was at the right speed to overdub in places on top of the Pig Destroyer track.

I give you one epic track of grindjazz.

Experimental? ....... Maybe.
Easy listening? ....... I hope not.

The United Sons Of Toil - Forces Of Production (2012)

I have to admit to approaching this collection of remixed tracks
with some trepidation.

When you have a powerful sounding band, so often the predictable
results are just to make everything sound unbearably noise filled
and heavier-than-heavy.

The United Sons Of Toil have shown admirable restraint in selecting
the tracks represented here.

Dub, electronic glitches, ambient spaces giving the songs a new dimension
and a paring down of sound makes this an excellent listen. In fact, this
goes beyond "just" a remix album and instead deserves to sit along side
other USOT releases as another side to them.

Don't take my word for it, because they are good guys, you can pay
what you want from Bandcamp

Facebook

Here is their own description of putting these tracks together:
We are inescapably immersed in a cut-and-paste culture. The oft-plagiarist world of musical inspiration has given way to digital deconstruction and reassembly. Individual tracks become raw material — merely starting points for new compositions. Five years in the making, this record documents a series of experiments in recontextualizing our music. Only one rule existed for this project: use only audio from the original recording — creativity often thrives under harsh limits.

Serious Beak - Huxwhukw remixes (2012)

Band request from Art As Catharsis records.

It's gonna make more sense just to let you read their press release
but there are some radical and interesting interpretations of the
tracks taken from last years "Huxwhukw"

Instrumental prog-metal reinvented as ambient/industrial/electronica?

Give it a go - it is a pay what you want from Bandcamp.

Serious Beak’s Huxwhukw and the Crooked Beak of Heaven remixes are out now!

Dearest pals, we have just released Serious Beak’s Huxwhukw and the Crooked Beak of Heaven remixesa FREE collection of reinterpretations and transformations of Serious Beak's debut album "Huxwhukw", featuring submissions from Alex Wilson (sleepmakeswaves,Enkidu), Nick Soole (Slimey Things), Dylan Mitrovich (Breaking Orbit), Hinterlandt,Godswounds, Moz Troniquz, Brendan Gloag (Face Command), Redbatman, AM Frequencies and The Artists Formally Known As Gene And Tim.

In November 2011, Serious Beak released their debut album 'Huxwhukw' to critical acclaim. It received delightful reviews from the likes of Loud Mag, Music Feeds, Sea of Tranquility, Metal Sucks, Metal Obsession, Invisible Oranges, Kill Hipsters, and Metal As Fuck amongst others.

The reception by Australia's underground musicians must have been similar, because when the band made the raw stems from 'Huxwhukw' available online and asked people to remix, rework and transform their debut album there was no shortage of interest.

After receiving dozens of submissions from Australia and beyond, the band have pieced together their favourite ten tracks into a special digital-only release: ‘Huxwhukw and the Crooked Beak of Heaven remixes’. The album spans genres as diverse as glitchy electronica, ambient shoegaze, classical film score, German industrial metal and an acoustic country hoedown.
The submissions which didn't make the final album have been made available as b-sides on Soundcloud: http://bit.ly/KVzBZR
