Goat - Live Ballroom Ritual

With only the 2012 release "World Music' under their belt,
why should you bother with this live album?

Because it is the voodoo spawn of the devil.

This came out in December, too late for my best of the year list
but by the power of Greyskull, Goat should of been on there.

If you are after fuzzed out Psych Afro-beat crossed with Blue Cheer
and Santana, this is the place to come to.

African/Rock drumming drive the songs along with a hypnotic beat,
the rhythm becoming almost another instrument. The tracks are
stretched out and sound almost like a band on the verge of jamming
for the sheer joy of playing........ something I fully endorse!

Non-western musical scales are unleashed through distortion pedals
and wild wah-wah solos take this from blissed out trance music
to proto-Sabbath bursts of amp cranked mayhem.

The female vocals start off pretty identical to their studio recordings
but as the set progresses, they start to sound unhinged, unearthly
and just plain insane.

This is a groovetrip with power chords that make you dance
and head nod at the same time.

Music of excellence!

Paris DJs Soundsystem - Have You Ever Been To Electric Afroland? - Tropical Grooves & Afrofunk International Vol.4

Here is funk-driven collection that fucking rocks..

The Paris DJs Soundsystem have sourced a collection of Afrofunk,
Afrorock, Afrojazz, Afrobeat, Latin or Brazilian Funk & Ethio-Jazz
from the 21st century has been prepared the other way round,
starting from the end and the packaging, ending with music and the
mastering of the final selection.

And the spirit of Jimi Hendrix floating in the studio...
These songs have a groove and beat that just make my feet start to stomp.
Some of the tracks are truly infectious and are perhaps even more relevant
to the rockier and psychedelic influences within the contemporary Afro
musical spectrum.

A lot of dirty, distorted guitar is sprayed around this album and combined
with the afrobeat percussion make this a no-brainer if you own
any music by Santana, Band of Gypsys or have ever dug anything with
a raw funk vibe.

Time to take your black t-shirt off, put some love beads on, go out
in the daylight and have some fun!

Paris DJs also have an incredible blog where you can download free,
over 400 mixes from their past sets. Have a look, have a listen,
expand your inner dancing fool Here

Big Mean Sound Machine - Marauders

Big Mean Sound Machine are a 20 piece band who want to kick
your arse with sound. Their MySpace tag reads "Live Experimental
and Electronic Afro-Beat, Funk and Dub" - can't say fairer than that!

Everything is driven by the groove of the rhythm section which give
a foundation for the horns, guitar and keyboards to play over.

All 9 tracks are instrumental and draw you in with a funk feel
that defies you not to nod your head along to them. Imagine Fela
Kuti jamming along with the Emperors New Clothes and you
get the vibe played here.

There is some shit-hot tight playing but does not sound over-produced,
it just seems to flow effortlessly.
