Abysse - En(d)grave

Band Request from France. (thanks Jérémy)

Abysse play instrumental metal and I have to admit that this type of
thing leaves me cold.

But ................ this is not one guy wanking off with his guitar,
trying to impress with speed but a whole band playing as one
cohesive unit and they just happen to have a player that when
doing a solo, has a tech-metal feel which sometimes slips into
a later-era Tony Iommi style.

Abysse have a groove and an abundance of real tunes that do
not make me think about the absence of a vocalist. The musical
styles veer from Mastodon to Dream Theater through some
Doom and back to metal without any problems at all.

Songs are always in the spectrum of heavy but with a clear
sense of space and light in the compositions which mean that it
does not just blur into a mess of cut'n'paste riffs.

This albums rocks like a bastard - if you ever been put
off by this genre, now is the time to throw off your shackles
of perception and give this a listen.

Collapsar - s/t (2005)

Now sadly broken up, Collapsar played an
intricate, instrumental mix of math / tech
metal in a fierce explosion of distorted
guitar lines.

Hard hitting riffs and sonic textured sound-
scapes played with almost King Crimson
precision but with added aggression which
allows all sorts of playing to come out from
the hardcore intensity within the songs.

Dizzying fretwork and an almost mental
jazz drummer may scare of the casual listener
but will reward those who are after some
heavier vibes - Listen

Augury - Fragmentary Evidence (2009)

Technical, progressive metal played at
the highest level.

Lots of heavy, distorted jazzy guitar work
played over very layered, complex and
lengthy songs which have a real epic sweep
to them with brilliant instrumental performances.

This is like the heavy bits from Opeth with
scorching guitar solos all over the shop.

Textures - Silhouettes 2008

Textures play Tech-Metal that is both
brutal and medolic. Huge landscapes of
riffage and vocals veering between clean
and hardcore type grunts make this a very
impressive album ...... heavier than Minsk
or Nuerosis?

They certainly give it a go!

Lye By Mistake - Arrangements for Fulminating Vective 2006

Lye By Mistake are Tech/Prog/Metal with
Hardcore Jazz influences......... kinda like a
shouty Dysrhythmia.

I cannot begin to give an accurate description
of them - watch the film for an idea!

Dysrhythmia - Barriers & Passages 2006

Dysrhythmia means a disturbance of
rhythm in sleep, heart patterns or in
this case music.

Instrumental Progressive Metal with
touches of tech-metal/jazz and rock,
this has manic drumming, taut bass lines
and guitar that destroys any concept of
scales, timing or musical notation that is
normally accepted.

The above does no justice to the music, it is
very hard to describe - just watch the video.
